Unearth

by Disism

Disism =
Charles Rice Goff III
and
Killr "Mark" Kaswan

Many Disism compositions were created specifically for compilation cassette albums put out by various tape labels from all over the world. Released by Taped Rugs Productions in 1993, the Disism cassette album: "Unearth" compiled several of these stray compositions onto one tape. Unearth also brought to the public a number of out takes and previously unreleased Disism recordings.

This archive contains the entire Unearth cassette album as well as some other Disism recordings that appear (or were supposed to appear) on compilation cassette albums originally released by tape labels other than Taped Rugs.

FROM UNEARTH:

1 "Love And Hate" - A Taped Rugs studio out take of a song that appeared on the first Disism cassette album and which was a popular performance piece. This upbeat version was recorded in the Oakland, California, Taped Rugs studio in spring, 1987.

2 "Pop Goes The Crack Mac, Spider In The Dell" - Recorded at Taped Rugs studio in early 1987, this composition involved a good deal of sonic "research" for Goff and Kaswan. It appeared on the cassette compilation: “Insane Music For Insane People, Volume 25,” released by Insane Music of Belgium in 1987. A live version of this piece appears on the 1987 Taped Rugs cassette album: “Disism/DD Downer.”

3 "BART In D Lydian" - Recorded at Taped Rugs Studio in early 1987, this composition was notated by Kaswan for live performance with a Frippertronics-style tape loop system. A PDF file of the original manuscript for the song is included in this archive. This version appeared on the cassette compilation: “Insane Music For Insane People, Volume 22,” released by Insane Music of Belgium in 1987. A live version of this piece appears on the 1987 Taped Rugs cassette album: Disism/DD Downer.

4 "It Doesn't Matter" - Recorded at Taped Rugs Studio in early 1987, this piece was adapted for live tape loop performance from a ballad written by Goff in 1981. A live version of this piece appears on the 1987 Taped Rugs cassette album: Disism/DD Downer.

5 "Asbestos I Can" - Recorded at Taped Rugs Studio in early 1987, this piece appeared on the cassette compilation: “Insane Music For Insane People, Volume 22,” released by Insane Music of Belgium in 1987. A live version of this piece appears on the 1987 Taped Rugs cassette album: Disism/DD Downer.

6 "Space 101/Red Finger Aspect" - Recorded at Taped Rugs Studio in early 1987, this piece combines two separate song ideas and a lot of sonic research. A live version of this piece appears on the 1987 Taped Rugs cassette album: Disism/DD Downer.

7 "Travel Mug Boogie" - The furthest thing from a trucker's blues song, recorded at Taped Rugs Studio in early 1987. A live version of this piece appears on the 1987 Taped Rugs cassette album: Disism/DD Downer.

8 "In Fremont Green There Is An AT&T Office" - Originally written for a cappella performance, this version was recorded through the Taped Rugs Frippertronics-style tape loop system in 1988. A (very poorly recorded) live version of this piece appears on the 1987 Taped Rugs cassette album: Disism/DD Downer.

9 "Yes, Once Again Right" - Pure filler nonsense for the Dada lover in all of us, recorded at the Taped Rugs studio in 1988.

10 "Tape" - An unreleased vocal/non electronic tape loop improvisation/sermon, recorded at Taped Rugs studio in 1988.

11 "Cellism" - An all-cello tape loop extravaganza recorded for the cassette compilation: "Everybody Loves The Cello," released by Collision Cassettes of Delaware, USA, in 1988.

12 "Bolerisimo" - Disism created this toy piano/tongue drum interpretation of Ravel's Bolero in 1987 at the request of a French producer who intended to produce a phonograph album of collaged Boleros recorded by groups and individuals from all around the world. The album was never released.

13 "Sammy Hits The Bottle" - Created in 1989 by combining bits from a number of Disism tape loop improvisations, this piece appeared on the cassette compilation: "Northern California Is A Noisy Place Indeed, Volume II" put together by Das of Big City Orchestra for Sound Of Pig cassettes of New York in 1989.

14 "Next, Please" - Created in 1989 by combining bits from a number of Disism tape loop improvisations, this piece appeared on the cassette compilation: "Gears = Sexfive," released by Empty Records of West Germany in 1990.

15 "Talk Sick" - Created in 1987, specifically to fit the theme of the cassette compilation: “PCB Spells I Love You”, released by Rat Lab Steamworks of Minnesota, USA, in 1988.
